Wael Elzein’s life reads like a master class in turning adversity into advantage. As a child in Lebanon he witnessed the chaos and tragedy of war. After emigrating to the United States, he arrived at Ohio University fluent in Arabic and French. Six years later he left as a member of Phi Kappa Phi with both a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology and a master’s in international affairs, ready to take on the world.
Wael Elzein, Co-Founder, President
Early experience taught Wael that languages unlock doors—and so does perseverance. Today, he speaks, reads and thinks across multiple languages and cultures, and he uses that gift to help clients achieve what others deem impossible. As president and co‑founder of Mantid International, Wael leads the strategic planning, business intelligence and government‑liaison efforts that allow U.S. companies to thrive in some of the world’s toughest markets. His clients count on him to cut through bureaucracy, anticipate risks, and find creative solutions that keep projects on track and compliant.
Wael’s credentials are hard‑earned. He spent eight years in Iraq as a senior advisor to the U.S. Departments of Justice and State and to the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction. There he forged relationships with the prime minister’s office, Iraqi ministries and the Kurdistan Regional Government, producing high‑impact reports that guided policy in Washington.
Earlier still, he served as a senior cultural and language consultant to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and trained investigative teams working with Iraqi officials. A former U.S. Army noncommissioned officer, he earned multiple commendations and a NATO medal for his service in Europe and the Middle East; the discipline and urgency he honed in uniform remain evident in his work today.
Beyond his résumé, what makes Wael indispensable is his mindset. He never sees a dead end—only a problem that hasn’t been solved yet. Whether he’s negotiating with cabinet‑level officials in the Middle East, advising defense contractors on complex compliance regimes or mentoring a team of analysts, his multilingual fluency and strategic imagination enable him to see patterns others miss. Colleagues describe him as tireless and unflappable, a man who makes the impossible possible. That tenacity helps explain why Mantid International has become a trusted partner for companies navigating unfamiliar terrain—and why Wael Elzein’s story continues to inspire.
